Happy New Year

Wishing all of our family, friends and clients a wonderful Happy 2014 New Year!

I created the above e-card from one of my high speed water drop photographs. To capture the photograph I used water, milk and blue food coloring to create the liquid sculpture that would closely resemble a martini glass. I did capture some frames where the top of the shape was not yet on it's way down, (slanting down on the top) but I like the diagonal in this one better.

I choose a black and white background to give the illusion of a tuxedo and a white shirt. I released bigger drop sizes in order to have the three additional stray drops (which results when dripping larger drop sizes) on the top, resemble the buttons on the tuxedos shirt.

The red bow tie was my finishing touch in my setup, but after a number of times of having to clean it up from the splashes, I decided to photograph it separately and then add back in during my post processing.

I took me more than one try to achieve what I had envisioned, but for me it was well worth it. After all my goal was to create a water drop shape with background colors and a red bow tie that would result in a New Years Eve theme.
